Cut through all the opinions, conflicting media and choose what is best for you to put in your own body

Changing our eating habits is difficult. In fact change in general is difficult.

Our brains are generally conditioned to take the path of least resistance. And once these paths are laid, it becomes incredibly challenging, though certainly not impossible, to change them.  Imagine for a second (or if you are unlucky enough, remember), that you broke the hand you write with. We all know exactly how to sign our name, but ye...

There is a special secret to success with these type of lists: Don't just read the list, actually do the list! That's kind of the important part.

I would encourage everyone to check off or make a mental note about which parts of this list still need your attention, and then start with ONLY ONE at a time and then actually get it done.  Remember, if we change nothing, nothing changes.

  1. Greens (spinach, kale,...

I had a patient once (in his 40's) who did not eat fruit or vegetables. Like at all. Not even the tomato and lettuce on his McDonalds burgers. He was so hilariously defiant: "Don't bother, you're never going to convert me" he said, and of course I really, really wanted to convert him.  I mean, he wasn't crazy, there was exceptions: white potatoes pretty consistently, and corn on the cob a few times each summer. Oh, and 2 apple...

"If we change nothing, nothing changes"

I love that saying, and I think it rings true for a lot of people; essentially, if we want to see results (whether it's related to how we feel, how we look, or facets of our health), we have to make our life look a little different than it has been before.

The tricky part is that changing our habits, especially when it comes to food, is crazy hard. All animals, including us humans,...

"GMO's" - The term gets tossed around a lot, and I get the impression we all have some vague idea about what they are, and that we should be basically be afraid of them, right?

Well, it's a complicated topic. But, worry not, I'm here to [kind of] uncomplicate it for you.

What are GMO's?

Let's start with some basics first to get everyone on the same page.  GMO's stands for: "genetically modified organisms". Technic...

If you read the last few posts, you obviously know I'm super pumped about this feel-good-approach to eating.  The only problem is: it still feels like a really huge concept. It's something that sounds great in theory, but in practice, you might be left wondering how exactly to make that shift, especially if you are feeling ready for monumental change and it sounds too damn slow. So I want to talk more specifically about how to...

Nutrition can be incredibly frustrating.  I am deeply fascinated by the science and love my job. But, sometimes it is the friggen worst. It changes every three seconds, and each week there's some new food to demonize or praise and way too many competing opinions out there.  It can be a serious challenge to feel confident about our eating patterns and to truly know if what we are doing is best for our health in the world we liv...

Wouldn't it be awesome to just eat normally? No guilt, no shame, no need to police every bite you put in your mouth, no need to "go off the rails" because there are no tracks.

We hear it all the time: "it's a lifestyle, not a diet". It sounds so quaint and charming, but it's also super friggen hard and vague. And wait a minute, if I can eat whatever I truly want, does that mean I can just eat cake and chips all day?

How do we...
